I’m excited to have the opportunity to attend Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb of God” concert at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, KY tonight. I’ve been listening to the album in preparation for tonight, and it is excellent. The lyrics are both poetic and powerful. Below you can watch the first song from the album:
Interesting, Charity and I were members of AABC for five years, and Charity was the church secretary. Hope they had a good musical.
Steve, I listened to the song and it is indeed powerful. (This is the first I have heard of this group.) I have a question. Near the end of the song does the song state: “He gave up his pride and he came here to die like a man?” If those are the lyrics, why would he state that Jesus “gave up his pride?”
I hope I heard that wrong or that I just don’t understand what is meant.
LJ,
You heard the line right. I’m perplexed by it as well. I think that AP must be referring to Philippians 2:5-11 which speaks of Christ as not regarding his deity as a thing to be grasped, but humbled himself, etc. This position, the only justified and unsinful pride in the universe, was willing laid aside in the incarnation. That’s how I hear and understand the line. But, I would have to ask Andrew himself to know for sure.
