The selections in the book, “Devoted to the Service of the Temple”: Persecution, Piety and Ministry in the Writings of Hercules Collins, was the product of preliminary research done on my Th.M. thesis on Hercules Collins’ magnum opus published in 1702, the year of Collins’ death, The Temple Repair’d. For my Th.M. thesis I am working on editing (modernizing the spelling, etc.) and annotating (providing explanatory footnotes) to the text of The Temple Repair’d. My thesis will also contain a historical introduction to this text which traces the debate among 17th century Particular Baptists on the subject of the education of ministers. The Temple Repair’d is an excellent manual for preachers and preaching. It deals with both the hermeneutical and homiletical sides of preaching. The book’s lessons are still timely today (see here). It is hoped that this work will be published sometime next year. Please pray that I will persevere in the work of editing and writing!
Brother,
I will pray! I want to make sure I get my own copy of it!
