Book Recommendation: The Cross and Christian Ministry

The Cross and Christian Ministry is a collection of four lectures given by D.A. Carson at the International Council of Accrediting Agencies (ICAA) and later at the International Federation of Evangelical Students (IFES). These four lectures form the content of the five chapters of this short (137 pgs.) book (one of the lectures was divided into two chapters). The chapters are expositions of key passages in the book of 1 Corinthians regarding aspects of Christian ministry.
  • Chapter One is an expositon of 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5 and focuses on the Cross and Preaching.
  • Chapter Two is an exposition of 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 and focuses on the Cross and the Holy Spirit.
  • Chapter Three is an expositon of 1 Corinthians 3 and focuses on the Cross and Factionalism.
  • Chapter Four is an exposition of 1 Corinthians 4 and focuses on the Cross and Christian Leadership.
  • Chapter Five is an exposition of 1 Corinthians 9:19-27 and focuses on the Cross and the World Christian.

This book explains the importance of the death of Jesus Christ to preaching and ministering to God’s people. It is highly recommended to all ministers of the gospel who desire a biblical understanding of the Christian ministry.
